The Clan Of The Cave Bear
(Jean M. Auel)

Publicidade
The main focus of this book is an exploration of the perspective of 'The Other', who is in this case, a deserted young child who grows up in another tribe during prehistoric times. She is different from the other tribe because she is more advanced in her ways and thinking. She has always been diffferent from them and has struggled for acceptance. The young woman has to find her own way after a horrible earthquake kills off her tribe. This occurs during the Ice Age. The author chose to take a survival course in which she learned how to build and ice cave and live in one.

The story is very emotional and philosophical, with little emphasis placed on dialogue. Nevertheless, Mrs. Auel captures the essence of the story and the plot is interesting and complex. She is very knowledgeable about the times. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in the history of prehistoric man, science, biology or anthropology. There is a psychological aspect about the instincts required for survival as well. It is a very interesting, eye-opening novel.
