The Legend Of The Vitoria Regia
(NELSON ALBISSU)

Publicidade
For the Indians of the time when this lend was told, the moon was a strong, brave warrior who lightened the Earth searching for beautiful girls. He married to them and turned them into stars in the sky. A young, beautiful Indian girl, called Naia, wanted so much to be chosen, too, so every night she bathed in the river under the moonlight. But nothing happened. She also ran to the mountains and tried to reach the moon, but she failed in this, too. One clear, full-moon night, Naia saw the moonbeans shining at the deepest area in the river. Thinking that the moon was bathing in the river and that was her great chance to meet her beloved, Naia plunged into the river and drowned herself to that. The moon was touched because he never had been so loved before. So, instead of a star, he transformed the girl´s body into a huge and beautiful aquatic flower, the vitoria regia, so he could embrace her with his silver light every night.
