?MARRIAGE AS A SPECIAL CALLING AND HOW MAY BE MADE LASTING?

          Is it not that marriage as the family code of the Philippines say?s the foundation of the family and an inviolable social institution (title 1, art 1). Is it not that Pope John Paul II says ?the health of the society depends on the family?. Is it not that God created man, male and female who is bone of his bone and flesh of his flesh? That is why a man leaves his father and mother and cling to his wife, and the two become one body (Gen.2:23-24) and this explains man?s urge to form a unity with his wife and to protect her.
            Most people begin married life in a more friendly fashion. However, each marriage is a challenge from the beginning which contains a unique and interesting potential. There is dignity, duty, and work attached to it. Yet, a commitment to be one heart and one soul, for better for worse, for richer and for poorer, in sickness and in health only death makes them apart?. That God intended until the end of time.
            Taking a look at our present situation, thousand of young engage in premature marriage. It is a sad reality because they do not value morality. They lose their manhood and strength for they allow themselves to be deceived by their emotions. They never realized what effects or consequences might explicit and realization just pour in after the conflict arises and they took marriage for granted. It is a terrible mistake because they are not capable of fully grasping the meaning of marriage and its responsibilities that are entailed.
            Marriage is the intimate partnership of conjugal life and love. The relationship of this sacred bond arises through that human act whereby spouses mutually bestow and accept each other. It is not a contract that involves pledge, rules, and penalty but it is an agreement between persons. Their mutual union in marriage is a means of mutual perfection and happiness of mutual love and understanding of couple.
            When two people are considering marriage seriously, they should make every effort to see each other as real persons and not as love objects. There are some important ways to make marriage lasts: the couple must have an open communication and meaningful conversation about their feelings, each must try to understand what it means to be the other persons, there must be honesty because one can never build a good relationship on lies and can not solve any problem by simply pretending that problems doesn?t exist, the couple must be real to each other, they must care for each other in a non-possessively warm caring, there must be commitment to love and honor until death, there must be permanence.
            Disappointment, pains, joys or sorrows that wait to couples are unknown which it is a part of life. The couple can face and accept this all because it is their love that can make marriage endure forever.
            Therefore, marriage is either the fountain of unending joy, happiness or wellspring of unceasing pains and sufferings. It can pave the road to paradise or usher into the highway to hell.
