A B C - Main Character Description
(ELIZA ORZESZKOWA)
The main character of the book- Joanna Lipska - was a young woman. She grew up in a poor family, but as long as her father lived, she was never hungry. When she lived with her brother in a small attic-room, her life was really hard. It was very difficult to see how beautiful she was, as she was always wearing a black dress, and an old, worn hat, which covered up her pretty long blond hair. Her big eyes decorated her face. She was very modest and shy and she never participated in any children plays. She often felt bad and she felt a kind of fear she would not be able to earn her leaving. When she became a teacher and started to teach neighbours? children, her life was full of sense. She felt she was very happy. This did not last long. She was accused of managing the school in an illegal way, she was brought at the court, because she taught Polish. He brother helped her, he paid the bail and saved her from the prison. Joanna Lipska was a noble and honest girl, who taught children, despite of possible threat from the invaders. Her deeds deserve respect and admiration.
