This is a story of two sisters-who happen to be twins.Louise is the older twin while Caroline is the golden one,the beloved pampered younger one.From an early age Louise realizes the differences in the way she and her sister are treated.Life on the tiny island where they live is difficult,with storms and other natural calamities.While there is often very little money for the necessities of life,their parents ensure that Caroline had her music classes,that her education doesnot suffer.Louise retreats into herself and begins to build a defense against the hurt that this causes her.She begins to learn all about the water and fishing in the waterways of the island they live on.As the sisters grow older Louise has to stand and watch,helpless to stop her sister as everything she holds dear is slowly snatched away from her.But Louise,hurt and bewildered,finds her true calling when she enrolls in the university and takes a course in nursing.She realizes that she was the one who has always clung to the Life she has known so well,unwilling to let go of anything that is familiar,afraid that if she does so she will be forgetten by all.With a career for herself Louise finds a place for herself in the world and is,finally,happy.
