On Behalf Of All My Family And Friends
(Martin Gray)
Martin Gray was born in 1925 in Warsaw. The son of a family of modest means, he watches as the Germans confine the Jewish population and himself in the Polish capitol inside of a ghetto. He begins a relentless struggle against the oppressor and also against hunger, disease, and poverty...He wants to live. At any cost. He then becomes a smuggler in the ghetto. Following this, he is deported to Treblinka and escapes from the death camp. He will then become a combatant during the Warsaw revolt and later an officer in the Red Army. The sign of his ultimate victory over those who killed his people and family comes about on the day of his twentieth birthday when he makes a victorious entrance into a shattered Berlin. For Martin Gray, the victory there is complete. He saw his people being oppressed and assassinated even before he was able to take up arms. For Martin Gray, however, the struggle, his life, is not over. He finds his grandmother there again and in a few years becomes a wealthy businessman. He earns money, over and over again. He amasses piles of it until he is able to retire and live off the money comfortably. But his goal will not have been those green banknotes that he piled up. His goal was to win and to win always. To win-victory was the only thing that counted. He meets Dina and he knows from that time forth that he has nothing more to win. It's a done deal. Merciless and vile, he conquered the challenges of life. It is then that he retires from business and settles down in the south of France. But no. His life is spiteful and he always gets his unrelenting revenge. On October 3, 1970, Dina and their four children die in a forest fire. Struck down again, Martin Gray does not, for all that, lower his arms and decides to re-enlist in the struggle of life. He sets up the Dina Gray Foundation which fights for the reservation of the planet. Martin Gray writes: "I wrote it to understand life, my life, and I wrote it for all of you in an attempt to be useful to others." I saw the movie for television, too, which moved me even more. One example of this was when his wife, played by BRIGETTE FOSSEY, burns to death along with her children. He had a hard life but it was filled with courage.
