Waterborne Diseases In India

Write your abstract here.Water borne diseases in India Pure Water is not available in all cities in India. Many opt for mineral water, as the ground water is contaminated or over drawn. Most pain giving instance has taken place in Kerala recently where PEPSI has been charged for over withdrawal of drinking ground water. People and NGO?s have raised slogans that ?we want water for drinking and not COCA-COLA or PEPSI?. Kerala has strong workfare supported by communist activities. So any company going against them will face severe consequences. These companies have created water borne diseases to the surrounding people. Medhe Phatkar is a leading woman NGO who fights tooth nail to eradicate water pollution in any part of India. She also fights now in Trivandrum against COCA-COLA plant in Perimatty, Kerala. In places like Cuddalore, Nagapattinam, Pondy the ground water has been affected by tsunami. Hence people in that area have been affected by cholera, dysentery and abdominal pain says Dr. Asha, a social service lady from a noted NGO set up. As many had walked on tsunami affected wet areas with barefoot they have been infected by leptospirosis says a leading nursing home administrator in Chennai and Nagapattinam. The waves have thrashed and left behind many dead bodies along the wet sea shore. The decayed bodies have created multifarious bacteria affecting skin, blood and lungs. Lack of proper health education and seriousness in walking over contaminated water is one amongst the many reasons sys a doctor from M.K. nursing home in Tondiarpet, Chennai, and TamilNadu. This matter was discussed in a medical camp organized by Indian medical association recently in Chennai. Local health authorities in various polluted areas spray phenyl, bleaching powder and DDT to kill the contagious diseases, spreading elements. Virus fever and cholera are common in hutments and residents along the open gutters. North Chennai is an industrial area and hence environment negligence is high. So there is a frequent visit of patients suffering from asthmatic bronchitis, sinusitis, respiratory problems, TB and dengue in the private clinics and public health center. As hotels charge heavily the working class depends much on way side petty tea shops and dirty restaurants with least amenities. Negligence in hygienic atmosphere causes the eatables covered with bacteria. The vehicle emits smoke and these collect in the water used by the restaurants. The waste eatables are strewn along the streets of Tiruvottriyur, a thickly populated industrial area in North Chennai where one can see barefooted workmen, women and children squatting on it uncared. So these situations cause multiple of diseases and the doctors in that area had to use very strong antibiotics to save them says a leading doctor. Spitting on streets, cloth washing, bathing and defecating are common scenes in Dharavi, the most polluted area in Mumbai. To avoid the congestion, the Mumbai officials have created a Greater Mumbai and many have been made to occupy in those remote areas. Industrial wastes, domestic wastes, plastics wastes are seen in the streets of Kolkata along Hoogly River so also along Ganges, a sacred river for Hindus. Ashes of all dead bodies are mixed with Ganges as the holy scripts of Hindus proclaim that a person can reach the abode of heaven if it is done so. It clearly indicates the extent of pollution in that river. So water borne diseases can be seen in the areas like Kasi, Gaya and Nagpur. Sentimental views of the Hindus too cause environmental pollution and water borne contagious virus attacks. If the authorities take stringent actions against the hut dwellers and economically backward people who create a mass with water allowing it to be contaminated, then some solution can be achieved. But the politicians depend upon the votes of thesee downtrodden citizens as the educated and modern society never go to polling booth to vote. So the authorities hesitate to clear the slums as the politicians immediately strike them with a whip of power. Water scattered, stagnated allows the areas like Mumbai slums, Orissa factory zones, north Chennai, old Delhi, Howrah slums of Kolkata, textile zones of Tirrupur, TamilNadu and many other neglected industrial quarters. Acquaguard manufacturers like Hindustan Lever, Eureka Forbes try to teach the Indian population, the seriousness of water borne diseases through advertisements in magazines, daily newspapers, and TV and film theaters. The manufacturers of mineral waters too have been caught red handed by health authorities as they sold water obtained from tap without removing the bacteria. It happened in Cuddalore, Coimbatore and some rural areas. Date of packing was not found on it and they were spurious. But the ignorant people buy it at a price of Re1 for one sachet and quench their thirst ignoring the fate they will face with water borne diseases. Most of the cases registered for water pollution is pharmaceutical industries in India say a press report. The environmental episode in SIPCOT Cuddalore, TamilNadu was mainly due to pharmaceutical industries there. Another recent incident of waste pollution was due to leather units in Pammal, a place near Chennai. Untreated water from these tanneries created havoc in streets. This alarming situation was raised with hue and cry by some social service group along with Exnora, an organization protecting environment.
