Jesus Lived In India
(Holger Kersten)
The very first thing which caught my attention was the title. Shrinagar, the picturesque beauty of Kashmir.Along with the famous sites of the place like Jamey Mosque, Shahi Hamadan one can find a different face of Shrinagar too. A mosque called Roza Baal is the center of the book's interest. You can't find the name even in the tourist guide books. Here the journey begins--grave(Kabr as the Muslims would call it) are lying here in a East-West direction. One is called the grave of Yuj Asaf. That is really interesting as the Muslims saints are buried in a North-South direction all over the world. The author argues here that the Jews of ancient Jerusalem, Zorikho had an identical tradition. So, can it be a grave of a Jew preacher who visited India thousands of years ago? What about the foot impression on the grave! It clearly shows the stigmata our Son of God suffered in his feet. Is it true or just a hallucination? The book often transports us to a different world. But then we are told about the oral traditional myth popular throughout Iraq, Iran, West Asia which says Jesus no crucifixion could ever kill Jesus, he escaped the land of enemies and visited Damascus, Egypt, Persia and some old books like Firang-E-Asfia, Jami-Ut-Tawarik are also there to support Kersten?s argument. Even in Indian history we find some interesting ?evidence?, strong enough to believe his views. The author quotes from Qoran-E-Pak(The Holy Qoran) which focuses on a conversation between Prophet and his daughter Fatima. Fatima says Jesus lived till he became 120 years of old. Even in Bhabishyat Mahapurana, a religious Scripture of Gupta Era in India supports that King Shalibahana once saw a saint who claimed himself as Isha (Jesus!). This is true that there are two phases in Jesus? life where anything mysterious might have happened in his life; The Bible is silent about it. From his 3-12 years and the time between 12-30 years. Here Holger finds another opportunity to support his views. He says Jesus visited India during that period of time too and obtained knowledge about Hindu philosophy and Sanskrit language. Kersten also has shown that many rituals in Christianity and Judaism actually came from Buddhism which widened throughout Egypt at that time. On the other hand the common indigenous people still follow some rituals which can not be found in other parts of India. Rather these resemble ancient Jew customs. Kersten has also taken out evidence from Bible itself to show that there are various reason to believe that Jesus did not die during crucifixion. Kersten has also quoted Nicolas Netovic, a late 19th century tourist who found some ancient Tibetan texts in a monastery saying about Jesus? India visit. The book is really interesting. But it would have been even more interesting if the author could remain a little impartial. Every line of the book clearly shows that he intended to prove these things and so he did it.
