Don´t Tell Anyone!
(Jaime Bayly)
Joaquin Camino belongs to Lima´s high life and his family has a very high income. He studies in a private school where he is in touch with whom would become his first friends,well-to-do kids. They will allow joaquin´s discovery of his homosexuality and the close relationship between the soon-to-be adolescents and the drugs. His sexual preferences will see the light when his father takes him to a brothel and he doesn´t feel physically attracted by the prostitute. The maternal behaviour is completely the opposite, she surrounds Joaquin with a bubble of false protection and lets him get away with unadmissible conduct. The contradiction of parental behaviour will unleash adverse reactions in Joaquin considered aberrant. As he grows up, he submerges into Lima´s hidden world, where he breaches the rules of the conservative society and further explores his homosexuality, breaking free of his mother´s religious approach to life and his father´s chauvinistic attitude. Life hardens him, making him more assertive and increasing his urge to travel to the USA where his reality changes overnight, boldly and shamelessly displaying his miscarried sexuality. The society described in the novel is clearly segregatinist, classist, selfish and intensely selective with the lower social classes spawning an unsolvable problem between the high life, which evolves among many cultures but wanting to develope only on its own.Alienation and exclusion extasiate and alienate the characters that move in the high circles of society causing them to have emotional problems. The form of the novel is light and its reading is easy.It may be considered informal an attempting against morals but what is exposed in it is only a reflection of a reality present in the high social classes in contrast with the world that surrounds them.
