For Kana the second World War meant a starving time. When Kana and her sister were taken by their mother to live in a countryside , and their mother had to sell all her Kimonos and became a short-tempered person. In the time of The World War- II , the other things had changed,too. The Todas family ( is a neighbor of Kana''s family) has soon recovered their prosperity. Mrs Toda, still passed the time with samisen lessons and long conferences with Shirato , the silk merchant from Kyoto , (but now in USA)no tradition which directed the patterns of much of Japanese life.
