Dan Brown?s ?Da Vinci Code? is a thick over 400-pages book which at first may seem to be hard to deal with. But from the very beginning I found it interesting and gripping. Although first chapters cause trouble to understand what is going on, soon everything clears up and there is hardly any difficulty to follow the events and the plot. And in such a book it?s essential not to lose the track of events as it consists of very short chapters and the action takes place in different scenery.Of course, the major problem concerning the book is a very controversial attitude towards Christianity, life of Jesus, his alleged marriage to Mary Magdalene and the Priory of Sion hiding the truth. For Brown all these secret messages are shown in Leonardo da Vinci?s paintings such as Mona Lisa, the Vitruvian Man and the Last Supper. This was the main point in discussion which began when the book was published. People started asking if the Church is lying to us and the Church condemned the author saying everything he wrote in his book is one big lie. Personally, I am not deep into the structures of the church, nor an art expert and that?s why I didn?t take the whole story seriously. I mean I don?t believe Jesus and Mary Magdalene were a married couple and had son because I don?t see any particular evidence for that. On the other hand there is not any evidence that it didn?t happen except for what the Church teaches us and in what we are obliged to believe as Catholics. Actually, when I read the book it was the least important thing I kept focused on. What was more interesting was the suspense, gaining new information, riddle-solving and hunt for the secrets ahead of police and assassins.The chapters in The Da Vinci Code are short, usually not more than a couple pages. Most of them end with a cliffhanger that immediately catapults the reader into the next chapter. From the beginning the story sets a pace which never wanes for the rest of the book. In addition to that, there are hardly two following chapters taking place in the same scenery. It?s a very movie-like method, often used by Brown, to gain reader?s attention and make it intriguing ? once we read a short chapter we want to know something more what happened to the characters.Brown has created a page-turning thriller that also provides an amazing interpretation of Western history. Brown's hero and heroine embark on an intriguing exploration of some of Western culture's greatest mysteries - from the nature of the Mona Lisa's smile to the secret of the Holy Grail. And, though some will have reservations with the veracity of Brown's point of view, here lies the fun of reading ?Da Vinci Code?.
