The book is the second part of On the Seventh Day trilogy (preceeded by On the River Piedra I Sat Down and Wept, and followed by The Devil and Miss Prym)woj. ?ódzkie. Veronica, the main protagonist, is disenchanted with her boring, uneventful life and decides to kill herself. The reasons for suicide vary, hers is the desire to end the life devoid of excitement and emotions. She swallows a handful of sleeping pills and, as her suicidal attempt fails, she's rushed to an infamous psychiatric hospital in Villete. It's the most modern of Lubliana's hospitals, yet the methods of treatment employed there had been banned. The pills did not kill her, but Veronica developed a serious heart disease as a side-effect and she is expected to die within a week. Resigned to her fate, she's awaiting the inevitable end. In the hospital, she meets three people who dramatically change her attitude to life: Mari, Zedka and Edward. As days go by, Veronica experiences more than during all of her earlier life. Will there be a happy end, or will the joy she found so late be taken away from her?
