Have you ever looked at your neighbor and wondered what secrets they are hiding. Well in Cathy Kelly's enthralling book, Past Secrets, she examines the residents of a picturesque street in rural Ireland. There is Faye who is hiding a secret from her daughter and appears to be so square and boring. As a result her daughter the beautiful artistic Amber gets fed up and runs away before her finale school exams. I will not tell you what happens in the end because that would spoil the book for you but lets just say it all sorts it self out as in any good novel. There is dependable Christie who, it turns out is not so dependable and is also hiding a fiery secret from her darling husband and when he finds out , oh boy, wait for that bit in the book.
And we must forget Maggie, beautiful redhead who hides her secret from her schooldays. Maggie develops a whole new character in the book when she gets rid of her cheating live in boyfriend Grey and hooks up with the grease monkey mechanic, who, it turns out is not all that he seems.
The story is built around these three main characters and their families and friends. I found the book one of those that it is hard to put down. It is just the sort of book to read when you want to forget about your own demons. And of course Past Secrets leaves you with that lovely warm feeling in your tummy of aahhh. I don?t want to tell you more about it as I don?t want to ruin it all but just to let you know that there are parts which are truly explosive and parts that are romantic and don?t forget the scary bits. The authoress, Cathy Kelly has brought the characters and the beautiful setting together in a very clever and eloquent way. Well worth a read.
